The business
Build LA Aztecs into a football entertainment and media company inspired by the promotional strengths of UFC, the cultural identity of St. Pauli and the lifestyle appeal of Como.
Real football remains at the centre. Around it, we develop live events, original content, sponsorship, merchandise and commercial partnerships.
The longer-term objective is a professional football club with a permanent home in Southern California, subject to the necessary funding, approvals and league arrangements.
The founder
I’m Scott “Matchmaker” Michaels , founder of Hairbond Journal and a former football agent.
I’ve built a consumer brand, worked with professional football clubs and players, and developed commercial relationships across the game.
My role is to bring together the brand, investors, football expertise and operating partners needed to turn the concept into a business.
I’m looking for people whose experience complements mine.
The financial opportunity
Rather than immediately committing approximately $25 million to a professional football operation, I want to test the business through a smaller, controlled launch.
Our current priorities are:
$50,000: Our minimum threshold of credible, non-binding investment interest before proceeding with the community offering process.
$100,000: The initial capital target towards developing and staging our first football entertainment event.
$200,000 to $300,000: The indicative total cost range previously considered for an event, subject to venue quotations, production requirements and an independently reviewed budget.
The initial $100,000 is not being presented as sufficient to fund the complete event. Any remaining capital must be secured before committing to delivery.
The commercial test
As a simple illustration, an event costing $200,000 could break even with $60,000 in contracted sponsorship, $20,000 in net merchandise and other contributions, and 3,000 paying spectators generating $40 net ticket revenue each.
These are planning assumptions, not secured revenues or confirmed costs.
We need to validate them with venue quotations, commercial agreements, actual paying customers and experienced operators.
What we need
A financial founding partner. An experienced Southern California event operator. Media production expertise. Football talent relationships. Sponsors and commercial partners.
We also need professional legal and financial advice to confirm the ownership structure, funding arrangements and investor protections.
The deadline
We have until 13 April 2027 to demonstrate sufficient interest in the current community funding route.
If we don’t, I intend to close that Wefunder approach and explore a different cap table with private investors. Any opportunity for ordinary supporters to participate may then have to wait until a later round, if one becomes available.

I don’t expect one person to bring everything.
I’m looking to assemble the right people around an opportunity that deserves to be properly tested.
I’ve built brands. I’ve worked in football. I know how to bring people together.
Now I’m looking for the partners who want to help turn LA Aztecs into a real business.
